Wolof

Information about the Wolof

The Wolof are the largest ethnic group in Senegal, making up approximately 45% of the population. The term "Wolof" may also refer to those who speak the Wolof language. Most Wolof practice Islam. The women (especially in Dakar) are known for their keen sense of fashion.

In older French publications the spelling "Ouolof" is often used instead of "Wolof". They are found in the Gambia, also a country bordering Senegal, where they form the majority as well.
