Additional background on Buriat

The Buryat language (or Buriat) is a Mongolic language spoken by the Buryats. They mostly populate the area called Siberia in East Asia. Partly they are residents of Chinese People's Republic, partly they live in Mongolia, and the majority of them populate the bordering area of Russia with the People's Republic of China and Mongolia.

In ISO 639-3 it is considered a macrolanguage. The individual languages within this macrolanguage are:
Chinese Buryat (65,000 speakers by Ethnologue [1]). Mongolian Buryat (64,900 [2]). Russian Buryat (318,000 [3]).
Buryat kheleng is official language in the Buryat Republic of Russia.
